Olivia Thomas Derizaire
Associate Marriage Family Therapist (AMFT #140578)
My Approach:
"To be loved but not known is comforting but superficial. To be known and not loved is our greatest fear. But to be fully known and truly loved isβ¦ what we need more than anything.β - Timothy Keller
While many long to be fully known and fully loved, the journey to this destination is often wrought with challenges, misunderstandings, assumptions, hopelessness, and even the occasional glimmer of hope. A healthy therapeutic relationship can offer a safe space where you can continue this journey. It would be an honor to partner with you in a therapeutic relationship where I can support you as you grow into a healthier relationship with yourself and the important people in your life. I will provide therapy that this nonjudgmental, empathetic, humane, honest, and invaluable.
At the core, my approach to therapy is person-centered meaning that my approach is influenced by your needs and values. I also employ a strengths-based approach meaning that I keenly listen for your inner qualities and skills and help you leverage that to lead a satisfying life. Additional therapeutic modalities I utilize are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) (exploring the relationship between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors), Solution-focused Therapy (exploring what you do well/what works and maximizing that), Pyschodynamic Therapy (exploration of the past to make sense of the present and plan for the future), Emotion-focused Therapy (exploration of feelings and needs to strengthen relationship bonds), and (and Structural Family Therapy (exploring the dynamics within your family and adjusting as needed).
I have a background in health education, meaning that I help people take action steps toward a healthier life. Through health education, I help people make changes to improve their diabetes, blood pressure, and weight management. Most of my career however, has focused on empowering parents to practice behaviors that support them in raising healthy children while creating a legacy they can be proud of. Faith and religion are also important to me and would be open to discuss how to integrate this into our sessions should you desire.
I am available for both in-person and online sessions.
